The Dead Sea Scrolls were scrolls from a monastic group known as the Essenes, dated to be about two thousand years old. Cook, Solving the Mysteries of the Dead Sea Scrolls, Note 26. p. 177). However, there is enough information to at least piece together some tidbits of well needed information. The search for scroll material rested in the hands of the Bedouins, who ravaged the Cave I site, no doubt losing precious material in the process. This impressive scroll is a collection of psalms and hymns, comprising parts of forty-one biblical psalms.

The Zaddikim (�Righteous Ones�) of the Dead Sea was a violent, apocalyptic sect dedicated to celestial beings, called the Kenoshim, who appeared to them in shining chariots. The Longer reading in the DSS explains what happens in this chapter. To consider now the two types separately, the 'monastic' brotherhood at Qumran alludes to itself in the Community Rule as 'the men of holiness' and 'the men of perfect holiness', and to the sect as 'the Community and 'Council of the Community or 'the men of the Law' (4QS'^=4Q258). Hoping for treasure, he was disappointed when he found scroll jars arranged along the cave wall. Interesting enough is that an Arabic Muslim bedouin youth discovered the scrolls while looking for a lost goat.
