Anhand von qualitativen Interviews mit Expertinnen und Experten aus dem Bereich der Öffentlichen Verwaltung werden einerseits die Herausforderungen, wie demographische Entwicklung, Wissensmanagement, Personalmanagement, Innovation und Innovationsbereitschaft, beleuchtet und andererseits werden die dazu erforderlichen Kompetenzen der Public Managerinnen und supervisor benannt, um diesen Herausforderungen in Zukunft begegnen zu können.

Unter Zuhilfenahme der qualitativen Inhaltsanalyse wurden die Interviews analysiert, um für den Leser einen zusammenfassenden, generellen Überblick über die heranstehenden Herausforderungen zu schaffen. Die erforderlichen Kompetenzen konnten dadurch auch in die Komplexe der generellen Kompetenzen, der Kompetenzen für Spezialbereiche und in Kompetenzen von Führungspersonen zusammengefasst werden.

Vor allem konnte der gesteigerte Bedarf an Managementkompetenzen im Öffentlichen Dienst anhand der examine der Interviews bestätigt werden.
